AION 2 "Steam account is already linked with another account" (fix)
Linking your Steam account to an existing NCSoft/PURPLE account fails with "your steam account is already linked with another account", or an attempt to unlink shows "failed to reset steam link". Some players then find their Early Access status, Founder's Pack or characters missing.

The first time you open AION 2 through Steam, NCSoft's PLAYNC system can quietly create a new account tied to your Steam login. When you later try to link Steam to your older NCSoft/PURPLE account (for Twitch drops or to play on both launchers), it refuses because Steam is already attached to that new account. NCSoft acknowledged "account linking issues" on its Steam news page on September 30 and said it was looking into them.
The workaround below was posted by players who said it came straight from NCSoft support, and several confirmed it worked, but it has not been published on an official page. Other players report that unlinking or switching the Steam-created account to a phone-number login wiped their characters and Founder's Pack access, so read the warning step first.

Fix it, step by step

Before anything else: don't log in to the NCSoft website with Steam and then choose "switch login to phone number" on that account, and don't delete it. Players report this left them without Early Access, Founder's Pack or characters, and phone-number accounts get no option to link anything afterwards. The workaround below adds a second login first, which is the route players said support gave them.
Add a spare Google login to the Steam-created account
Following the instructions players quoted from NCSoft support: prepare a spare ("dummy") Gmail address. Sign in to PLAYNC with Steam, open MyPage, then Manage Login, and next to Google choose Link. Finish the prompts so both Steam and Google are listed on that account.
Sign back in with Google and unlink Steam
Log out of the PLAYNC website, log back in using the Google option (not email), go to Manage Login again and choose Unlink next to Steam. One reporter found the button labelled Disconnect rather than Unlink. The confirmation warns you lose Advanced Access and Steam-linked data on that temporary account, so only do this if you have nothing you want to keep on it.
Link Steam to your existing PURPLE account
Log in to your existing PURPLE account on the PLAYNC website, open Manage Login, choose Link next to Steam and finish the prompts. You should then be able to play on Steam with that account. Several players in the Reddit thread said this worked; others said their characters reset, so expect to check your character and Early Access after relogging.
Contact NCSoft support if progress or Early Access vanished
If your characters, Early Access or Founder's Pack are missing after linking, only NCSoft can restore them. Players got no replies for a day or more and one said reconnecting Steam to the originally created temporary account brought Early Access and characters back for some. Open a ticket at [help.plaync.com](https://help.plaync.com/) with your Steam ID and proof of purchase.
