AION 2 "You do not have Advanced Access" — character missing

The client stops at login with "You do not have Advanced Access and cannot enter. Access will be available after the official launch. The client will now close." Some players see a prompt to buy Early Access again instead, or log in to find their character gone, even though they own a Founder's Pack.

There are two different problems behind this message, and the date tells you which one you have.
On launch day (September 30) NCSoft's entitlement check lagged and some Founder's Pack owners were refused for a while. NCSoft said on October 1 that it had "released a fix" for Early Access status not being recognised. If you see the message now without having changed any account settings, restart Steam and try again.
The common case now is account linking. If you play through Steam, Steam created an NC account for you in the background, and your character, Founder's Pack and Advanced Access all belong to that account. Linking Twitch, Google, an email or a phone number to a different NC account on the NC website, or unlinking Steam, can point your Steam login at an empty account. Nothing is deleted. NCSoft's own help article says the character stays on "the NC Account you were using when the character was created", and the fix is to link Steam back to that account. NCSoft's October 2 Twitch Drops notice warns players not to link accounts on the NC website for exactly this reason.

Restart Steam and the game if you changed nothing
If you haven't touched your account links, fully close Steam and relaunch it, then start AION 2 again. This cleared the launch-day version of the error for players on September 30, and NCSoft released a fix for unrecognised Early Access status on October 1.

Relink Steam to the original NC account (NCSoft's steps)
Follow NCSoft's help article: go to id.plaync.com/account/logininfo and log in with Steam. In Manage Login, add a second login method (a new Gmail account works), log out, and log back in with that new method. Unlink Steam. Then log in with a method that was linked to the account that has your character, open Manage Login again, and Connect your Steam account. Your character, pack and Advanced Access should come back with it.

Sign in to the original account with its own login (three reports)
If the original account was tied to Google, sign in with the "Google" button rather than typing the same Gmail address into the email field. One player got their characters, rewards and Advanced Access back this way. Two more players, one on Steam Discussions and one on r/Aion2, fixed it by signing in to the original hidden NC account with the login they had added to it, then adding Steam back.

Don't refund, rebuy or reinstall
Reinstalling, refunding and rebuying, or switching to a phone-number login didn't help players in the Steam thread. One player who switched logins ended up paying for Early Access twice. Your pack is on the original account, so a new purchase lands on the wrong one.

Open an NC support inquiry if the relink fails
If the steps above don't bring your character back, submit an inquiry at help.plaync.com ("Submit an Inquiry", top right). A community manager pointed players there on September 30. On October 2 players reported waiting more than 24 hours for replies. One r/Aion2 commenter said support answered that NCSoft was aware but could do nothing yet, so try the relink steps first.
