r/GearsOfWar: Fetching Data problem, cant play online ↗

The main menu shows "Fetching Data" above your player card with no error code, and online (Horde, Versus) never loads. Reported on Steam PC.

"Fetching Data" above the player card means the menu is waiting on online data that never arrives. No error code is shown. Two Steam PC players reported it in the days after the October 14 patch.

One of them (r/GearsOfWar, October 17) deleted the E-Day folder under %LocalAppData%\Microsoft and relaunched, and said it fixed it. The Steam Discussions poster tried reinstalling, a driver and BIOS update, router resets and more, without success. Servers can also be down, so check the live status page first.

What to try

    Delete the Gears of War E-Day folder in %LocalAppData%\Microsoft

    Close the game, open %LocalAppData%\Microsoft and delete the "Gears of War E-Day" folder, then relaunch so the game recreates it. The original poster of the r/GearsOfWar thread said this fixed "Fetching Data". It is one OP-confirmed report; nobody else has said whether it works for them.

    Reinstall, updates, re-login, router reset and time sync didn't help

    The Steam Discussions poster reported that validating files, reinstalling, updating the BIOS and graphics driver, re-logging into the Microsoft account, removing Xbox credentials in Control Panel, resetting the router and PC network settings and syncing the PC time did not fix it. They said it began after the latest update.

    If the folder delete doesn't help, check the live Gears of War: E-Day status page before changing anything else.
