AION 2 crashes right after the NCSoft logo — error 0xE0000012
The game shows the NCSoft logo, starts the planet zoom-in cutscene, then closes itself with no error dialog. Checking the logs afterward shows exit code 0xE0000012.
This is the single most-reported crash in AION 2's playtest Discord (one thread alone has 60+ replies). The exit code itself is generic — it's NCGuard (the anti-cheat) terminating the process — and two specific, reproducible causes have been identified so far, both software conflicts on your machine rather than anything server-side. Try them in order. If neither applies to you, this crash is currently unresolved: a NCSoft community manager has been actively collecting SteamIDs and PC specs from affected players in the Discord, so it's on the studio's radar, but there's no general fix yet.
What to try
- 01If you run Corsair iCUE, disable it from Windows startup apps and restart your PC before launching AION 2. One player reproduced this exactly five times in a row: the game crashed every time iCUE was running in the background and launched flawlessly every time it wasn't.Reported
- 02If you run Citrix Workspace (specifically its App Protection module) or Malwarebytes, close or temporarily uninstall it. A detailed log investigation (NCGuard's own ncglog.txt) found it actively blocking those programs' legitimate files — ctxapclient64.dll for Citrix, mbamsi64.dll/offreg.dll for Malwarebytes — which triggers this exact crash. - 03If neither of the above applies, there's no confirmed fix yet. Reinstalling, verifying game files, updating drivers and disabling other security software have not worked for most players who tried them, per multiple independent reports in the same thread.Unconfirmed
