The game sits on "Waiting for Platform to Sign In" and then shows the error code "Elias-gutpuncher", so you can't get past sign-in.

Players report Elias-gutpuncher after "Waiting for Platform to Sign In". The cause is unknown. One Steam reply links it to the Steam and Xbox profile link, which is that player's opinion.
Evidence is thin: one r/GearsOfWar post (3 upvotes, 8 comments) and a user report in a Russian Steam thread. We found no developer reply and no confirmed fix.

The poster in the r/GearsOfWar thread said reinstalling the game, resyncing the timezone, signing out and in of Xbox and Steam, updating Windows and using Xbox repair tools did not help. For context, they said the only thing that worked was reinstalling Windows. We don't recommend that as a step; it is one report.
Set Windows time automatically and sync it (unconfirmed for this code)
The October 5 patch notes list "Improved XBOX authentication handling when the system clock differs significantly from the correct time". They don't name this code, so we can't say a clock problem causes it, and the Reddit poster's timezone resync did not help. Install the Microsoft Store / PC Game Pass version (one reply)
In the Russian-language Steam thread one reply said the only solution is to install the game from the Microsoft Store. Players in other threads say the PC Game Pass version connects fine while the Steam version fails (see marcus-lancer). It needs a Game Pass or purchase on that store and nobody confirmed it fixed this code.
