Gears of War: E-Day zee-gorehook: Versus disconnects

The game kicks you out of Versus matches with the error "zee-gorehook", sometimes several times in a few minutes.
Also appears as: zee-gorehook, zee gorehook, zeegorehook, zee gore hook, gears e-day error code zee-gorehook, gears of war e-day kicked from versus, gears of war e-day constantly disconnecting versus
Players on Steam, Xbox and Game Pass report being kicked from Versus with zee-gorehook, some within minutes of joining. Reinstalling, DNS changes, firewall changes and router resets were reported as not helping, which points away from your own setup. The Coalition has not acknowledged it.
Two r/GearsOfWar threads (October 2 and 6) are our evidence. No fix is confirmed. Check the live status page first.

Close and restart the game, on Xbox (unconfirmed)
One reply in an r/GearsOfWar thread (4 upvotes) attributed it to Xbox Quick Resume and said closing the game and starting it again fixed it. The original poster said restarting did not help at first, though the problem later went away. Not reliably confirmed. For the Quick Resume setting itself, see the quentin-ephyra page.

Play the Game Pass version instead of Steam (one report)
The poster of the October 6 thread switched from the Steam version to Xbox Game Pass and reported no zee-gorehook afterwards. One report, and it only applies if you own the game on both.

Try another Xbox account (one report)
One commenter (1 upvote) said using a different Xbox account was the only thing that fixed it for them. Not confirmed by anyone else.

Reinstall, DNS, firewall and router resets didn't help
Commenters in the October 6 thread reported that reinstalling, changing DNS, changing firewall settings and resetting the router did not stop the kicks.
