Deadlock error codes and crash fixes
Every error, crash and connection failure we have a fix for, one page per code. Before the fix, each page says whether the problem is your machine or the studio's servers — because if it's theirs, no amount of verifying game files will help, and the only useful answer is whether it's happening right now.
Things you can fix
Crashes, install faults and driver conflicts. Find your symptom, work the steps in order, stop when it launches.
Deadlock "FATAL ERROR" at launch after the update (mods & FPS configs)
Since the September 2026 update, Deadlock closes at launch with a FATAL ERROR dialog, most often "Unable to find child 'ShopFilter' in layout file 'panorama\layout\citadel_hud_hero_shop.xml'". Other versions name "Error parsing KV3 data in 'scripts/abilities.vdata'", "Unable to load layout file … hud.xml" or "Application unable to load gameinfo.gi file".
Deadlock "Network Offline": what it means and what to try
"Deadlock Network Offline" flashes up at launch and the client quits, or it appears on the main menu after you're dropped out of a match.
Deadlock "Failed To Create Party": not signed in to Steam (fix)
Queueing or creating a party shows "Failed To Create Party – You are not currently signed in to Steam or the Deadlock Network is unable to determine your current connectivity to our servers", even though Steam is signed in. The console may show "Cannot access SDR network. No ISteamHTTP."
Deadlock crashing at the Valve logo or with 0xc0000005 (fixes)
Deadlock closes at the Valve logo on launch, or freezes and crashes a few minutes in with an access violation (exception 0xc0000005) in the crash dump. There's usually no error dialog.
Deadlock VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST: Vulkan unrecoverable error (fix)
Deadlock closes with "Fatal Error: Vulkan encountered unrecoverable error VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST", on launch or when leaving the title screen.
Deadlock "Valve Anti-Cheat Challenge timed out" disconnect
Mid-match, often in the first minute, the game shows "Disconnected from Server" with "Valve Anti-Cheat Challenge timed out. Please ensure that you are not using any programs that may interfere with VAC, and confirm that Steam is correctly installed." Failing to rejoin can count as an abandon.
Deadlock "Error in Init() of interface RenderDeviceMgr001" (fix)
After switching the renderer to Vulkan, Deadlock won't start and shows "AppSystemDict: Error in Init() of interface 'RenderDeviceMgr001'" (or "Error in Connect() of interface 'RenderDeviceMgr001'").
Deadlock error 126: unable to load module tier0 (fix)
Launching from Steam shows "Unable to Start Game – A game file appears to be missing or corrupted", then "CAppSystemDict:Unable to load module tier0 (Dependency of VApplication001), error 126". A variant names filesystem_stdio instead of tier0.
Things you cannot
Queues, capacity limits and login failures. These are server-side — every page below links back to live status rather than a fix you can perform yourself.
Deadlock "Cannot enter matchmaking, already trying to find a match"
Pressing play shows "Error - Cannot enter matchmaking, you are already trying to find a match", even though you aren't queued, and it comes back after every restart.
Deadlock stuck on "Match In Progress" and can't queue
After the September 30, 2026 update, the play screen shows "Match In Progress" as if you were still in a game, but there's no match to rejoin and you can't queue.
Deadlock crashes with a fatal error when opening Settings
Since the September 30, 2026 update, opening the Settings menu immediately closes Deadlock with a fatal error. Doing it mid-match can get you an abandon penalty.
How these are graded
Every fix step carries a label. Confirmed means players demonstrably got back in with it, or the studio said so directly.Reported means it worked for some people and not others. Unconfirmed means it's circulating and there's no evidence either way yet. The distinction is the point — a page that lists five fixes with equal confidence costs you an evening.
