3,227

Concurrent players on Steam right now. A real outage pulls this number down within minutes, so a normal count alongside a flat report count usually means the problem is on your end.

About Active Matter's servers

Active Matter is a time-loop extraction shooter set in a fractured multiverse, developed by Matter Team and published by Gaijin Network Ltd (the studio behind War Thunder and Enlisted). It fully released on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 15, 2026, after a paid early-access period sold directly through the Gaijin Store; that earlier version is not the Steam listing tracked here, and Steam’s own concurrent player count has run in the low thousands through launch week. Squads of operatives raid PvE and PvPvE “quantum unstable zones” for loot and Active Matter resource, extracting before the zone collapses — deaths mean losing unsecured gear, and repeated “Harmonization Cycles” periodically reset Monolith progression while leaving Merits and Prime currency intact.

Gaijin runs its own support site (support.gaijin.net), a community bug tracker (community.gaijin.net/issues/p/active_matter) and forum (community.gaijin.net) for Active Matter, alongside the game’s own news feed at activematter.game/en/news, which mirrors Steam’s official news hub for app 2887580. There’s no dedicated status dashboard; maintenance and outages are posted to those channels as they happen, most recently a 30-minute scheduled window on September 22, 2026. Early demand has centered on account-linking friction between Steam and existing Gaijin.net accounts (including a formal Steam-edition transfer process for early Gaijin Store buyers) rather than server-status volume — a pattern typical of a studio’s first Steam release for a game that started life on its own storefront. Server regions are currently limited to North America, Europe and CIS, with Gaijin publicly noncommittal on a launch date for Oceania or Asia coverage.

Maintenance, queues, and real outages

Three different things get reported as "Active Matter is down," and only one of them is an outage. The chart above is the fastest way to tell them apart, once there's data on it:

A real outage

Reports spike hard within an hour, then decay as the problem is fixed. Nobody announced it in advance.

Scheduled maintenance

Reports climb steadily and stay flat for the length of the window, because everyone hits the same wall at the same time and keeps hitting it.

A login queue

Matchmaking/login reports climb while server-connection reports stay low, and a Steam player count (if shown above) holds flat instead of dropping. The servers are up and full, not down — waiting is the only fix.

Announced maintenance would show up at the studio's own status channel or the official Discord before it shows up here.

If it's only broken for you

Most "is it down" moments aren't outages. Work down this list before assuming the servers are the problem — it's ordered by how often each one turns out to be the answer, not by how easy it is.

  1. 01

Check the report count above first

It costs nothing and it settles the question. A flat report count means other players are getting in fine, and everything below is worth your time. A spike means it isn't you, and none of it is.

  2. 02

    Verify the game files

In Steam: right-click Active Matter → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. A partial patch is the single most common cause of a game that launches and then fails to connect.

  3. 03

Restart the whole chain, in order

Game, then your launcher/Steam, then your router. People almost always do the first and skip the third — a stale router NAT table produces exactly the symptom people report as "servers down."

  4. 04

Rule out a VPN or restrictive network

A VPN fails matchmaking far more often than it fixes it, and so does a corporate or campus network that blocks the UDP ports a game server needs. If you're on a network you don't administer, that's the likely answer.

  5. 05

If it crashes rather than fails to connect, treat it as a crash

A game that starts and then dies, rather than never connecting, is usually a local fault — most often graphics drivers or overlay software, not the servers.

Active Matter server status: common questions

Is Active Matter down right now?

As of 01:26 UTC, 0 players have reported a problem in the last 15 minutes — counted as people, so repeat taps from one person don't inflate it. This page updates on every load.

Does Active Matter have an official status page?

No dedicated live status or uptime dashboard has been found. Gaijin Network announces maintenance and outages through the Active Matter news feed on activematter.game, the Steam news hub for app 2887580 (the two mirror each other), and the @amgame_official account on X — all announcement channels rather than a status page. That gap is why third-party trackers like this one exist for the game.

When does Active Matter usually go down for maintenance, and how is it announced?

Gaijin has posted short scheduled-maintenance notices directly to the Steam news hub — for example, a 30-minute window on September 22, 2026 from 07:00 to 07:30 UTC — rather than keeping a recurring published schedule. There's no fixed weekly window confirmed yet; check the Steam news hub or activematter.game/en/news first if the game is unreachable, since a short scheduled window is expected downtime, not a fault.

Does Active Matter have OCE or Australian servers?

Not yet, as of this page's last check. Only North America, Europe and CIS server regions are selectable; Gaijin's own September 7, 2026 Developer Q&A, asked directly "Will you add servers in South America, Asia, or Oceania for the game's release?", answered only that they "will be generally optimizing as well as expanding server locations" — no date or commitment. Australian players report NA servers are playable with higher ping for non-PvP interactions in the meantime, a pattern also described in an active Steam Discussions thread on the topic.

Gaijin's September 7, 2026 Developer Q&A →

Why did my existing Gaijin account or progress not carry over on Steam?

This is a known account-linking gap, not a bug in the traditional sense. Active Matter's Steam client can auto-log you into a fresh, empty account instead of your existing Gaijin.net one, and buying the Steam edition after playing the paid early version through the Gaijin Store requires a separate, official transfer step. Both have documented fixes — see the dedicated page below before assuming you've lost progress.

Is there launch-week connection or raid-disconnect trouble, and has it been fixed?

Yes, and Gaijin has shipped official fixes for part of it. Patch 0.4.0.135 specifically "improved the ability to reconnect to a raid after a connection loss" and fixed "a rare server freeze"; a later patch, 0.4.0.137, fixed "a rare server error that could occur when a player spawned in a raid." If you're still on an older build and getting disconnected mid-raid, updating is the first thing to try — see the dedicated page for the full patch history and what to do if it persists.

What happens to my progress when Active Matter wipes for a new Harmonization Cycle?

Gaijin's official "Harmonization Cycles Q&A" post spells this out: wiping (starting a new timeline) lets you repeat Monolith Access Level progression and earn that cycle's Merits again, but Merits and Prime currency themselves persist across wipes rather than resetting. Cycle 1 also ended a few days early when Gaijin reworked the Merit system, and they confirmed rewards already earned from it stayed obtainable — so a Harmonization reset isn't the same as losing everything.

Is there a real, official Active Matter Discord?

Yes. The invite (discord.gg/RWajbUQZfH) is linked directly from both activematter.game's own news/community pages and the official Steam store page for app 2887580, and Gaijin has posted from its @amgame_official X account inviting players to "our new official Discord server" for news, dev updates and playtests — a genuine first-party channel, not a fan-run lookalike.
