Old School RuneScape "Error connecting to server": fix

The client, Steam launch or mobile app fails to connect to a world or the login server with an "error connecting to server" message, often at the same time as other players.

Check Jagex's Game Status Information Centre before touching your router. Jagex has no support article for this exact wording, so this page rests on player reports, and they point at Jagex's side often enough to rule it out first. In a Steam Discussions thread from November 20, 2025, the original poster had already reset the router and found a third-party tracker showing nothing wrong. Replies then said the game was down for maintenance, one adding that the OSRS website listed a return time and the game was late coming back. Jagex's status page lists the weekly windows: Tuesday maintenance usually at 9:00 UTC and the Wednesday game update usually offline from 10:30 UTC. The page also says it is manually updated and may lag behind evening or weekend events, so an ONLINE line does not fully rule an outage out. If it is not maintenance and the status page shows nothing, Jagex's general connection advice applies, though it does not name this message.
