Monsters & Memories "User login error" on Linux / Steam Deck

Starting the game through Steam on Linux or Steam Deck shows "User login error. Please exit out of the client and restart the launcher." and won't let you in.

This is the launcher error players see when the Linux client is started through Steam, not from the Windows launcher. The community-run Monsters and Memories wiki gives the cause as a sign-in error.
The wiki's fix is a Steam launch option: --patchme (the client asks for your credentials) or --token with a session token from the launcher. Its Steam Deck page also says to add --patchme when running mnm.exe as a non-Steam game.
This comes from one community wiki, not the studio. The official FAQ lists "The launcher is throwing an error, how do I resolve it?", but its answer wasn't readable and the message isn't named there.
Fix it, step by step
Add --patchme to the game's Steam launch options
In Steam, open the non-Steam entry for the game, then Properties and Launch Options, and add
--patchme. The community wiki says this forces the client to ask for your user and password, and it lists it as the fix for this error.Or pass your session token with --token in the launch options
The wiki's alternative is
--token <your-token-here>in the launch options. It gives this command to read the token from the launcher database:awk -F'token|remember' '{print $2}' $HOME/.local/share/com.monstersandmemories.launcher/launcher.db. Treat the token like a password and don't share it.Log out and back in through the launcher if the token expired
The wiki says tokens expire after roughly 30 days. After that, log out and log in through the launcher to get a new one, then update the launch option.
