You select a character to log in with, the game appears to load, and then you're dropped straight back to the character select screen instead of loading into the world. Logging into the same character a second time right after usually works.
This is an open, officially acknowledged bug rather than a one-off report. Niche Worlds Cult's own Known Issues tracker lists it verbatim: "Logging in a character sometimes immediately bounces back to character select, second attempt works." It was first reported July 13, 2026 and was last updated September 12, 2026 — still open nine days out from the October 1 Early Access launch, with no fix date attached. The studio's own support FAQ ("Why can't I log in?") independently backs up the workaround: if there are servers to select from and one of them lets you reach character select at all, but a specific character won't load, trying that character a second time is the documented first step, ahead of anything more drastic like removing and re-adding your account in the launcher. Nothing published explains the underlying cause (a character-load timeout, a stale session token, or something else) — only that it happens intermittently and that retrying resolves it for most players.
