Monsters & Memories hasn't launched yet
Early Access opens October 1, 2026. There's no live-service history to check yet, and no reports are possible until real players are in the game. This page will start showing live reports, a 24-hour chart, and an incident history automatically once it does — no rebuild needed.

▲ Is it broken for you? Tap what's failing
One tap. No account, no email. Reports are the only thing that tells the next player whether it's their connection or the servers — including when that player is you tomorrow.
Your report is anonymous. We store the category and the time. We do not store your IP address — it is hashed with a secret and today's date purely to stop one person filing fifty reports, and the hash cannot be reversed or matched to you tomorrow.

Maintenance, queues, and real outages
Three different things get reported as "Monsters & Memories is down," and only one of them is an outage. The chart above is the fastest way to tell them apart, once there's data on it:
A real outage
Reports spike hard within an hour, then decay as the problem is fixed. Nobody announced it in advance.
Scheduled maintenance
Reports climb steadily and stay flat for the length of the window, because everyone hits the same wall at the same time and keeps hitting it.
A login queue
Matchmaking/login reports climb while server-connection reports stay low, and a Steam player count (if shown above) holds flat instead of dropping. The servers are up and full, not down — waiting is the only fix.
Announced maintenance would show up at the studio's own status channel or the official Discord before it shows up here.
If it's only broken for you
Most "is it down" moments aren't outages. Work down this list before assuming the servers are the problem — it's ordered by how often each one turns out to be the answer, not by how easy it is.
- 01
Check the report count above first
It costs nothing and it settles the question. A flat report count means other players are getting in fine, and everything below is worth your time. A spike means it isn't you, and none of it is.
- 02
Verify the game files
In Steam: right-click Monsters & Memories → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. A partial patch is the single most common cause of a game that launches and then fails to connect.
- 03
Restart the whole chain, in order
Game, then your launcher/Steam, then your router. People almost always do the first and skip the third — a stale router NAT table produces exactly the symptom people report as "servers down."
- 04
Rule out a VPN or restrictive network
A VPN fails matchmaking far more often than it fixes it, and so does a corporate or campus network that blocks the UDP ports a game server needs. If you're on a network you don't administer, that's the likely answer.
- 05
If it crashes rather than fails to connect, treat it as a crash
A game that starts and then dies, rather than never connecting, is usually a local fault — most often graphics drivers or overlay software, not the servers.
Monsters & Memories server status: common questions
Is Monsters & Memories down right now?
Monsters & Memories isn't playable yet, so there's no service to be down until October 1, 2026. This page starts counting reports the moment the servers come up — no rebuild needed.
Is Monsters & Memories down for everyone, or just me?
Compare the reports on this page against the developer's own live numbers. Niche Worlds Cult runs a public Server Metrics page (account2.monstersandmemories.com/metrics) showing active subscriptions and per-server online counts in real time — if that page shows people logged in and playing while you can't connect, the problem is most likely local to you. If the metrics page itself is unreachable or shows every server flatlined at zero during hours it's normally populated, that points at something wrong on Niche Worlds Cult's end. There's no Steam concurrent-player count to lean on here (see below) — the metrics page is the closest thing this game has to that signal.
Is Monsters & Memories on Steam?
No, and the studio has said it isn't planning to be. Their own FAQ states it directly — "We don't have any current plans to launch Monsters & Memories on Steam. We've preferred to work through Early Access as a self-published and self-distributed title to help maximize our margins, while also ensuring that we're not exposed too soon or too quickly to an audience that may not be seeking our (very specific) style of game." The game is distributed entirely through Niche Worlds Cult's own launcher and account portal at account2.monstersandmemories.com, downloaded from monstersandmemories.com directly. Practically, that means no Steam Discussions to check during an outage and no Steam player-count graph to corroborate reports with — everything routes through the studio's own channels.
Niche Worlds Cult's own FAQ on Steam plans →Is the October 1 Early Access date and start time actually confirmed?
Yes. Niche Worlds Cult's Early Access FAQ states servers open at "09:00 Bahrain time. This is 02:00 Eastern and 23:00 Pacific" on October 1, 2026 — an unusual reference time zone that traces back to a member of the team, but a specific, published hour rather than a vague "sometime on the 1st." This date already slipped once: Early Access was originally set for June 1, 2026 and was pushed back in April to give the team more time on performance, systems, and content polish. No 1.0 release date has been announced — Early Access itself is open-ended.
Monsters & Memories Early Access FAQ →How does the $15/month subscription and billing actually work?
Billing went live on September 21, 2026 (ahead of the October 1 launch) and covers October's subscription with no additional charge until November 1. It's a flat $15/month per account processed through Stripe, converted to local currency where applicable, with no box price and no planned microtransactions — gift subscriptions are planned but "likely disabled at launch." Niche Worlds Cult's own FAQ doesn't publish a policy for what happens if a payment fails (a declined card, an expired billing method); nothing found describes a grace period or an account-lock timeline for that case, so treat it as unconfirmed until the studio says otherwise or someone reports what actually happens.
Early Access Overview — billing and subscription details →Does Monsters & Memories run on dedicated servers, or is it peer-to-peer?
Dedicated, studio-run servers, in the traditional MMO sense — not peer-to-peer. The Server Metrics page lists named public servers with live per-server population and starting-zone breakdowns, and the official FAQ discusses "server types" and "server clusters" as infrastructure Niche Worlds Cult manages directly. No hosting provider or datacenter location has been publicly named. A stress test in April 2026 found the team's database needed far more active connections than expected under load — they upgraded from 75 to 225 connections afterward — which is the kind of detail that only makes sense for centrally-hosted infrastructure the studio controls.
Update 31: Stress Test Results →Will there be a login queue when Early Access opens?
Nothing specific has been announced. Niche Worlds Cult has said openly that "we do expect the first few days/weeks of EA to be like they typically are for any new MMO" — an acknowledgment that launch day will likely be rough without committing to what form that takes (a queue screen specifically, versus general instability or lag). For context, a public stress test on April 28–29, 2026 saw registration climb past 2,000 participants, and the team noted that "as the number hit roughly 1,000 players in the zone, things degraded significantly" before they made server-side changes. Expect turbulence; don't expect a specific documented queue mechanic.
Get Ready for Early Access →Why does logging in sometimes bounce me back to character select?
This is a real, currently-tracked bug, not something you're doing wrong. Niche Worlds Cult's own Known Issues tracker lists "Logging in a character sometimes immediately bounces back to character select, second attempt works" — first reported July 13, 2026 and still open as of its last update on September 12, 2026, nine days before Early Access opens. Their own support FAQ backs up the workaround: try logging into the character a second time, and if that fails, check the character select screen for a server-status notice before assuming it's your account.
Login bounces back to character select (known issue) →Will there be a queue or cap on reserving my character name?
Name reservation opened September 15, 2026, and it's capped, not unlimited — Niche Worlds Cult is only honoring the first 4,000 reservations per server, one name per account. The studio has also said it's using the reservation numbers to gauge how much interest each server is getting ahead of launch, so a server's reservation count isn't just cosmetic — it can inform which servers get attention if population turns out lopsided on day one.
Get Ready for Early Access — name reservation details →Will my character progress get wiped after Early Access?
No wipe is planned. Niche Worlds Cult has stated Early Access is not a head-start event — characters created from October 1 onward are meant to be permanent, carrying forward through 1.0 rather than resetting when the game eventually leaves Early Access. That's a real commitment worth noting precisely because it's the opposite of how some Early Access MMOs (and this game's own earlier alpha/beta phases) have handled progress before.
Early Access FAQ — wipe policy →Does Niche Worlds Cult publish an official status page?
There's no traditional red/green "all systems operational" status page, but there is something unusual for a game this size: a public Server Metrics dashboard at account2.monstersandmemories.com/metrics showing live active-subscription counts and per-server population, plus a separately maintained Known Issues page listing currently open bugs with report and last-updated dates. Neither is an outage announcement page — if servers go down outright, the official Discord and the account portal's own update posts are the most likely places it gets said first.
Monsters & Memories Server Metrics →How does this tracker know Monsters & Memories is down?
It doesn't measure Niche Worlds Cult's servers directly — nobody outside the studio can. It counts distinct players reporting a problem, the same way any crowdsourced outage tracker works, and shows this game's own Server Metrics numbers alongside it as a second, independent signal, since there's no Steam player count to use instead. Reports are counted once per person, so repeatedly pressing the button doesn't move the number.
Incident history
Auto-logged from player reports over the last 30 days. An incident is a run of hours with at least six different players reporting in each, the same signal the verdict above responds to — so one frustrated player pressing a button repeatedly can never put an incident on this list.
No incidents logged in the last 30 days.
