MADFINGER help centre: Cannot run the game due to Skalla.dll error ↗

The game won't start and shows an error about loading or missing Skalla.dll.

Skalla is MADFINGER's own engine layer, and its DLL needs a CPU with the AVX2 instruction set. MADFINGER's help centre says a missing AVX2 is the most likely cause, and if your CPU doesn't have it, the game can't run on that PC.

Intel Core 4th generation and newer and every AMD Ryzen support AVX2. If yours does and you still get the error, MADFINGER points to a BIOS setting, damaged Windows files or an outdated Visual C++ runtime.

Fix it, step by step

  1. Check that your CPU supports AVX2

    Look up your CPU in TechPowerUp's CPU database. Intel Core 4th gen and newer and AMD Ryzen 1st gen and newer have it. Without AVX2, MADFINGER says the game cannot run.

  2. Make sure AVX is enabled in the BIOS

    Enter the BIOS (usually Del or F2 at startup), find AVX or Advanced Vector Extensions, set it to Auto or Enabled, then save and exit.

  3. Repair Windows files with DISM and sfc

    In Command Prompt as administrator, run one at a time: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, then sfc /scannow. Install all Windows updates afterwards.

  4. Repair the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable

    Download vc_redist.x64.exe from Microsoft (aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe), run it, choose Repair, then restart your PC.
