Gray Zone Warfare error 0x0001000F: failed to authenticate (fix)

At launch or on the server-select screen, the game shows "Network Error Occurred (0x0001000F) Failed to authenticate with the online services", or "NETWORK ERROR OCCURRED (0x00010004) – Steam Authorization Failed" with Reconnect and Quit buttons, and you can't get in.
Also appears as: network error occurred 0x0001000f, failed to authenticate with the online services, 0x0001000f, 0x00010004, steam authorization failed, steam authorization failure gray zone, grey zone warfare 0x0001000f, gray zone warfare can't connect, rtc connection failed
The game can't confirm your Steam login with MADFINGER's online services. For one player at a time it's almost always the local network, and MADFINGER's own help-centre fix is to turn off IPv6. At least 15 players in an April 2026 Steam Discussions thread said that worked.
When lots of players get it at once, it's an outage. MADFINGER acknowledged a wave of 0x0001000F and 0x00010004 errors on April 9, 2026, and said an August 2025 wave of "Steam Authorization Failed" was caused by Steam. Check the live player reports on this site's Gray Zone Warfare status page first.
Fix it, step by step
- NoteConfirmed
Look at the player reports on the Gray Zone Warfare status page and the official X account, @GrayZoneWarfare. If many players report it in the same hour, it's on MADFINGER's or Steam's side and the steps below won't help.
Turn off IPv6 on your network adapter and restart
Open Control Panel > Network and Sharing Centre > Change adapter settings, double-click the adapter you use, click Properties, untick Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), click OK, then restart your PC. This is MADFINGER's official fix, and it's the one most players in the April 2026 thread confirmed. If your internet stops working afterwards, your provider relies on IPv6 (one player's did), so tick it again.
Flush your DNS cache as well (one report)
With IPv6 off, open Command Prompt and run
ipconfig /flushdns, then relaunch. One player said this combination fixed it.Clear Steam's download cache and restart Steam (one report)
In Steam, open Settings > Downloads > Clear Cache, sign back in and launch the game from your library. One player in the August 2025 thread said this cleared "Steam Authorization Failed".
Temporarily disable your antivirus and retry (one report)
One player in the August 2025 thread fixed it by disabling their antivirus. If that works, add the game and Easy Anti-Cheat as exceptions instead of leaving it off.
