Escape from Tarkov "User action required" error (fix)
The launcher or game stops with "User action required", either while the servers are down for maintenance or after the game crashes with "It appears the game has terminated with an error, do you wish to report it".

Players report this dialog in two unrelated situations, so work out which one you are in before trying anything. (1) During maintenance: it showed up on r/EscapefromTarkov in the 29 September 2026 downtime thread, when Battlestate announced on the official @tarkov X account that a planned data center maintenance would make Escape from Tarkov and Tarkov Arena unavailable from 01:00 to 05:00 BST. That notice does not mention this dialog; the link between the two is the players' report. (2) After a crash: one May 2026 Reddit thread quotes it as "User action required - It appears the game has terminated with an error, do you wish to report it", and the poster says disabling Nvidia Smooth Motion stopped it. That is one report, not a tested fix.

Check @tarkov on X for announced maintenance
Check the @tarkov account on X before touching your setup. Battlestate announced a planned data center maintenance for 29 September, 01:00 to 05:00 BST, during which the game, Tarkov Arena and the official websites were unavailable. If a window like that is active, the dialog is a downtime symptom and waiting until it ends is all that is needed (players in the Reddit thread reported it clearing afterwards). Disable Nvidia Smooth Motion if the game crashed (one report)
If you got the dialog after the game crashed, with no maintenance announced, turn off Nvidia Smooth Motion in the Nvidia app or driver settings and relaunch. One player on Reddit reported this fixed it and a second thanked them, but it is a single-thread report and Battlestate has not confirmed it.
