RuneScape: Dragonwilds Xbox can't play online (privacy fix)

On Xbox Series X|S, online play, joining friends and crossplay worlds won't work even though your internet is fine and the game is fully updated.

This one is on your console's settings, not Jagex's servers, and Jagex says so itself. Its Known Issues post of September 16, 2026 states that "XBOX users have to set the 'You can see and upload community creations' privacy setting to 'Everyone' to access online play." Xbox privacy settings can block online play in a game without any obvious error, so the setting is worth checking before you troubleshoot your network. Patch 1.0.0.5 (live September 25, 2026 on Xbox, PS5, Epic Games Store and Steam) adds a message so Xbox players "will be notified when a conflicting privacy setting prevents them from going online." Until you're on that build, the game may simply fail to connect without telling you why. It isn't a guaranteed cure: one player on the game's main subreddit said their setting was already on Everyone and they still couldn't get online, so if it doesn't help, the crossplay page covers the other confirmed cause.
What to try
- 01On your Xbox, open the privacy settings and set "You can see and upload community creations" to Everyone, then relaunch Dragonwilds. This is the workaround named in Jagex's own Known Issues post.Confirmed
- 02Update to patch 1.0.0.5 or later. It adds an in-game notification when a conflicting privacy setting is what's stopping you from going online, so you're told rather than left guessing.Confirmed
- 03If you can go online but can't join a world that already has other players in it, that's a separate bug fixed in 1.0.0.5 — see the Xbox multiplayer join page.Confirmed
