RuneScape: Dragonwilds error codes and crash fixes
Every error, crash and connection failure we have a fix for, one page per code. Before the fix, each page says whether the problem is your machine or the studio's servers — because if it's theirs, no amount of verifying game files will help, and the only useful answer is whether it's happening right now.

Things you can fix
Crashes, install faults and driver conflicts. Find your symptom, work the steps in order, stop when it launches.
Dragonwilds fatal error crash on launch (D3D12 fix)
The game crashes immediately on or shortly after launch with a "Fatal error" dialog referencing D3D12RHI/D3D12Util.cpp and "CopyCommandList->Close() failed," or, in a separate variant, the Play button simply resets with no error text at all while Epic Online Services fails to initialize in the background. A third variant, reported after the 1.0.1 update (October 14, 2026), crashes right after the developer logo with an AsyncLoading2.cpp "Bad export index" fatal error.
Dragonwilds server not showing up (version mismatch fix)
A dedicated server you (or a friend) started for RuneScape: Dragonwilds doesn't appear in the Public tab of the Worlds screen, even though the server itself is running and other games' dedicated servers show up fine on the same box.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds Xbox can't play online (privacy fix)
On Xbox Series X|S, online play, joining friends and crossplay worlds won't work even though your internet is fine and the game is fully updated.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds invite code missing or not showing
The world menu shows no invite code, so friends (especially on another platform) can't join you — usually after a crash or a disconnect.
Things you cannot
Queues, capacity limits and login failures. These are server-side — every page below links back to live status rather than a fix you can perform yourself.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds crossplay not working or unavailable
The crossplay tick-box won't let you enable it, crossplay worlds don't show up, or joining across platforms fails with "error cannot use cross-network features with current account privacy settings."
Dragonwilds dedicated server crashing after 1.0.1: no fix yet
A RuneScape: Dragonwilds dedicated server freezes (CPU drops to 0%, the log just stops) or shuts down with "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x0000000000000030" on a repeating schedule, from about every 10 to 20 minutes to about every 2 hours, starting around the 1.0.1 update on October 14, 2026.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds "failed to load player state" error
Trying to log into your main character throws "Error: failed to load player state" and dumps you back to the start/character-select menu, while newly created characters on the same account load fine.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds "unknown network error" fix
Trying to browse or join a friend's or public game throws "An unknown network error has occurred. Please try again." — typically when joining a session rather than during normal solo play.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds World Save Corrupted or Missing After 1.0
Your RuneScape: Dragonwilds world is missing or gone from the world list, or a world save is corrupted after you exit a session.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds "mismatched build": meaning and fix
You can see a friend's or public world listed in the Worlds screen, but trying to join it throws a "mismatched build" message — even when every player involved reports being fully up to date. Most reported in cross-platform (crossplay) groups, and when a friend's or rented dedicated server has not yet been updated to the same version as the players' game.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds Xbox can't join a world with 2+ players
On Xbox, joining a multiplayer world fails once other players are already in it. The first friend gets in, a second still can, but you can't connect when two players are already there.
Dragonwilds "Name Already Taken" when joining a server
Joining a friend's RuneScape: Dragonwilds dedicated server or a console-hosted world fails with a message that your character name is already taken, worded in one report as "A character with this name already exists." Changing the name does not help in the console-hosted case.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds crashes on Play Online (no internet)
You lose your internet or Wi-Fi, select Play Online, and the game closes instead of showing an error or letting you into single player.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds PS5 crash joining a crossplay world
On PlayStation 5, the game crashes when you accept an invite to a crossplay world, or when you create a crossplay world with a password.
How these are graded
Every fix step carries a label. Confirmed means players demonstrably got back in with it, or the studio said so directly.Reported means it worked for some people and not others. Unconfirmed means it's circulating and there's no evidence either way yet. The distinction is the point — a page that lists five fixes with equal confidence costs you an evening.
