About Enshrouded's servers
Enshrouded is a co-op survival action RPG set in the realm of Embervale, developed and published by Keen Games (a German studio). It launched into Steam Early Access on January 24, 2024, and Keen Games has confirmed via an official Steam post that it leaves Early Access for a full 1.0 release on October 15, 2026 — simultaneously on PC and, for the first time, PlayStation 5 with dedicated PS5 Pro support. Xbox Series X|S was deliberately delayed to spring 2027 so the studio could “focus and get each version right,” per CEO Jan Jöckel.
Multiplayer runs on a mix of hosting models, which matters for anyone asking whether “Enshrouded is down” is even a question Keen Games can answer: players can host peer-to-peer sessions themselves (the world only stays up while the host is online), or connect to dedicated servers, which Keen Games officially partners with G-Portal to host, alongside self-hosted and third-party-rented options. There’s no dedicated Keen Games status page — outages and maintenance, when announced at all, show up on the Steam news hub or the @KeenGamesStudio X account. Full PC/PS5 crossplay is not part of the October 15 launch; Keen Games has said it’s coming in a later patch with no date set. No save wipe has been announced for 1.0, and the studio has said publicly it has no plans to force one.
Maintenance, queues, and real outages
Three different things get reported as "Enshrouded is down," and only one of them is an outage. The chart above is the fastest way to tell them apart, once there's data on it:
A real outage
Reports spike hard within an hour, then decay as the problem is fixed. Nobody announced it in advance.
Scheduled maintenance
Reports climb steadily and stay flat for the length of the window, because everyone hits the same wall at the same time and keeps hitting it.
A login queue
Matchmaking/login reports climb while server-connection reports stay low, and a Steam player count (if shown above) holds flat instead of dropping. The servers are up and full, not down — waiting is the only fix.
No dedicated status page has been published for Enshrouded — the closest official channel is the official Discord. This tracker exists precisely because that gap is normal for this kind of game, not an exception.
If it's only broken for you
Most "is it down" moments aren't outages. Work down this list before assuming the servers are the problem — it's ordered by how often each one turns out to be the answer, not by how easy it is.
- 01
Check the report count above first
It costs nothing and it settles the question. A flat report count means other players are getting in fine, and everything below is worth your time. A spike means it isn't you, and none of it is.
- 02
Verify the game files
In Steam: right-click Enshrouded → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. A partial patch is the single most common cause of a game that launches and then fails to connect.
- 03
Restart the whole chain, in order
Game, then your launcher/Steam, then your router. People almost always do the first and skip the third — a stale router NAT table produces exactly the symptom people report as "servers down."
- 04
Rule out a VPN or restrictive network
A VPN fails matchmaking far more often than it fixes it, and so does a corporate or campus network that blocks the UDP ports a game server needs. If you're on a network you don't administer, that's the likely answer.
- 05
If it crashes rather than fails to connect, treat it as a crash
A game that starts and then dies, rather than never connecting, is usually a local fault — most often graphics drivers or overlay software, not the servers.
Enshrouded server status: common questions
Is Enshrouded down right now?
As of 03:06 UTC, 0 players have reported a problem in the last 15 minutes — counted as people, so repeat taps from one person don't inflate it. This page updates on every load.
Does Keen Games publish an official status page for Enshrouded?
No dedicated status or uptime dashboard has been found. The closest official channels are the Steam news hub for app 1203620, the news section of enshrouded.com, and the @KeenGamesStudio account on X — all announcement channels rather than a live status page. That gap is why a distinct-reports tracker like this one, and third-party server trackers such as BattleMetrics and GameMonitoring, exist for this game.
Does Enshrouded run on dedicated servers, or is it peer-to-peer?
Both, and which one you're on changes who's at fault when something breaks. Enshrouded's own FAQ says "it will be possible to set up dedicated servers, if you don't want to always have to be online for your friends to be able to play" — meaning the game also supports a simpler peer-to-peer mode where one player hosts and the world dies the moment they log off. Keen Games partners with G-Portal as its official dedicated-server host, though players can also self-host (a Steam guide and community Docker images exist for this) or rent from other providers. A self-hosted or rented dedicated server going down is not a Keen Games outage; it's a problem for whoever runs that specific server. See the pages below for the errors dedicated-server hosts hit most.
Why a dedicated server won't show up in the browser →When does Enshrouded 1.0 come out, and at what time?
Enshrouded leaves Early Access with its 1.0 release on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Keen Games' launch FAQ on Steam (October 13) gives the time as 08:00 PDT, 11:00 EDT, 16:00 BST and 17:00 CEST, which is Friday, October 16 at 00:00 JST and 02:00 AEDT. Keen published the full 1.0.0.0 changelog on Steam on October 14. Early Access owners on PC don't need to buy the game again. Expect a jump in both players and error reports around launch.
Is Enshrouded coming to PS5 and Xbox?
PS5, yes, on the same day as the PC 1.0 release: Keen Games CEO Jan Jöckel confirmed October 15, 2026 as a simultaneous PC/PS5 launch, with dedicated PS5 Pro support. Xbox Series X|S was pushed back separately — Jöckel said the studio chose to "focus and get each version right" rather than rush it — and is now planned for spring 2027 with no firm date yet. A new console-only audience hitting launch-week server load on October 15 is exactly the kind of event that produces a spike in "is Enshrouded down" searches.
Will PS5 and PC players be able to play together at 1.0?
No — not at launch. Keen Games' October 13 launch FAQ says "Enshrouded will not be cross-platform at launch" and that it is working on cross-platform play but has "no current estimate" of how long it will take. If you're on PS5 and can't join a PC friend's world on or after October 15, that's expected behavior, not a bug or an outage.
Will Enshrouded 1.0 wipe my Early Access save?
No. Keen Games' October 13 launch FAQ says "You can absolutely use Early Access saves once the game releases in 1.0", and that saves will be converted to a new, more efficient format. Keen adds that it has changed the world and the first few hours a lot, so it "strongly encourage[s]" starting over if you're up for it. That's a recommendation, not a wipe. The 1.0.0.0 changelog adds that a save from an older version is "firstly backed up and secondly automatically migrated", and that the skill tree is reset the first time you load an existing save, so spend your skill points again. If a character or world seems missing, check both the local and the Steam cloud tab in the selection menu; local saves now live in `C:\Users\<you>\Saved Games\keen games\Enshrouded\default`.
Keen's 1.0.0.0 changelog (Steam, October 14, 2026) →Why is Enshrouded stuck compiling shaders?
Shader compilation runs on your PC, so it isn't a server problem, and a long first compile is normal after an update. When it takes 30 minutes or more, or starts again on every launch, players point to Steam's own Shader Pre-Caching setting. Keen Games hasn't commented.
Stuck compiling shaders: what players changed →Why won't Enshrouded launch with error 0x11C7?
Players tie 0x11C7 to Windows Smart App Control blocking the game on their PC, so it isn't a server problem. In the reports we found, two players say installing the latest Windows update cleared it. Turning Smart App Control off also works, but players warn it can only be turned back on by reinstalling Windows.
Error 0x11C7: what fixed it for players →Why can't I join my dedicated server after the 1.0 update?
A "Server Version Mismatch" means the server is on an older build than your game. The dedicated server is a separate install, so the owner has to update it; in one r/Enshrouded thread the original poster fixed it by stopping and restarting the server, and a subreddit moderator said rebooting may not apply updates on its own. If it's someone else's server, wait for them to update. Back up the server's savegame folder first: Nitrado users in a Steam thread report lost world progress after restarts.
Server Version Mismatch: how to update the server →Why is Enshrouded stuck on a black loading screen after the 1.0 update?
In a Steam thread marked solved, players relay that Keen said on Discord that more than 1024 blocked users on Steam can stop worlds loading, and unblocking some fixed it for two of them. Keen hasn't posted that on Steam, and one player with an empty blocklist was still stuck.
Black loading screen: the blocklist workaround →Why does Enshrouded say "Your Steam client is not running"?
Keen lists it in its pinned 1.0 known-issues thread as a common Steam issue: uninstalling and reinstalling Steam, then restarting your PC, fixes it in most cases.
"Your Steam client is not running": Keen's fix →Why does Enshrouded crash with VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST?
It's a Vulkan graphics crash on your PC, not a server problem. Players point to graphics drivers, the shader cache and overlays such as Medal, and one says a faulty GPU was the cause. Keen's Hotfix 1.0.0.1 fixed "several issues that could cause random crashes" but doesn't name this error, so update the game first.
VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST: what players changed →What did Enshrouded Hotfix 1.0.0.2 fix, and what's still open?
Hotfix 1.0.0.2 (version number 1269579, October 16) fixed the bug from Hotfix 1.0.0.1 that stopped you editing world settings, so the Adventure Sharing workaround is no longer needed. It also fixed a range of crashes, including one during save migration. To do that, corrupted characters are no longer migrated: Keen says that if a character is missing from your list, a fix that migrates and repairs them is on the way. The 1.0.0.1 changelog's other known issue (wrong reverb and voice-over ducking with master volume below 100%) isn't mentioned in 1.0.0.2.
Keen's Hotfix 1.0.0.2 changelog (Steam, October 16, 2026) →Did my Nitrado Enshrouded server wipe my world on restart?
Players on Nitrado report worlds rolling back to an earlier state after the server restarted, in a Steam thread that started October 16. Two of them say a full server reinstall stopped it happening again, but the lost progress didn't come back. The original poster says Nitrado support told them it was investigating "a problem with a hotfix". Neither Keen nor Nitrado has posted publicly about it. Back up the savegame folder before restarting.
Steam Discussions: Server keeps resetting progress →Can I move my character between different Enshrouded servers?
Yes — Enshrouded's own FAQ confirms characters carry their full equipment, inventory, and unlocked levels/skills when swapping servers. What doesn't transfer: most crafting recipes, NPCs you've recruited, and shroud towers other players (not you personally) discovered. If a server swap looks like it "lost" recipes or summoned NPCs, that's this documented behavior, not a bug.
