Gray Zone Warfare "Invalid game executable path!" (fix)

Launching shows "Invalid game executable path!" followed by the path to GZWClientSteam-Win64-Shipping.exe, and the game doesn't start.
Also appears as: invalid game executable path, invalid game executable path gzwclientsteam-win64-shipping.exe, gray zone warfare invalid game executable path, grey zone warfare invalid game executable path, gray zone warfare launch error, gray zone warfare smart app control
Easy Anti-Cheat is being blocked before it can start the game. In three separate Steam Discussions threads from April to September 2026, the cause players found was Windows Smart App Control, and turning it off let the game launch.
MADFINGER hasn't published anything on this exact message. Its related anti-cheat articles blame Windows security and antivirus software.
Fix it, step by step
Turn off Windows Smart App Control
Open Windows Security > App & browser control > Smart App Control settings and set it to Off. Three players in separate threads said this fixed the error. Be aware that on many Windows 11 versions Smart App Control can't be turned back on without resetting Windows, so try the next step first if you want to keep it.
Add Easy Anti-Cheat as a Windows Defender exception (one report)
Add exclusions in Windows Security > Virus & threat protection for the game folder and
C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat_EOS\EasyAntiCheat_EOS.exe. One player suggested this; nobody confirmed it.Verify game files in Steam (unconfirmed)
Right-click Gray Zone Warfare in Steam > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. Suggested in one thread, with no confirmation that it worked.
Sorted. Glad that worked.
Nothing worked. Here's what to do next.
