Mid-raid you're kicked to the main menu with "Online Persistence Error (0x00040008) – Failed to save player's progression. Please join a different server or try again later." Gear, loot or task progress may be gone when you return, and during server trouble it can repeat every 15–20 minutes.

MADFINGER's servers failed to save your character, so the game drops you rather than risk losing more. It's server-side: nothing on your PC causes it, and it spikes during outages. The most recent wave was in April 2026, a week after Update 0.4, when MADFINGER posted that it was investigating "the current server issues".
Players have reported it since launch in 2024, and no local fix has ever worked in the threads. MADFINGER's advice for lost gear is to open a support ticket for compensation.

There's no local fix: the save failed on MADFINGER's servers
Verifying files or changing settings won't stop it. Check the player reports on this site's status page and @GrayZoneWarfare on X to see whether servers are struggling.

Rejoin later or start a new expedition on another server
The error itself asks you to join a different server or try again later. During the April 2026 outage MADFINGER also suggested switching to a nearby region, for example EU West to EU East, to avoid queues.

Lost gear? Ask MADFINGER support for compensation
MADFINGER said players who lost gear to the server issues can submit a ticket at support.madfingergames.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. Include the time, server region and what you lost.
