Active Matter: Gaijin account won't link to Steam (fix)

Launching the Steam version logs you straight into a new, empty account instead of your existing Gaijin.net account and its progress — the settings menu shows "You are logged in via Steam," and choosing "Log Out" only offers "Log in via Steam without Gaijin.net" rather than a way back to your original account. Separately, some players can't even complete the Steam purchase because their Gaijin account has no confirmed email.

This is an account-linking gap, not a server problem or a bug that loses your progress outright. Active Matter's Steam client defaults to auto-logging in through Steam rather than your existing Gaijin.net credentials, and a Gaijin Community Manager confirmed directly in Steam Discussions that the way around it is the client's "Login via Web" option, which lets you sign in with any saved account instead. Separately, anyone who bought the paid early version through the Gaijin Store needs to use an official transfer page to claim the Steam edition — it's a real, sourced process, not a workaround.
Fix it, step by step
Use "Login via Web" instead of the Steam auto-sign-in
In the login screen, use "Login via Web" instead of letting the game auto-sign-in through Steam — this lets you enter your existing Gaijin.net email and password directly. A Gaijin Community Manager ([CM] MajorMcDonalds) gave this exact instruction in response to a player with this issue.
Claim the Steam Edition with the same Gaijin account you bought with
If you bought the paid early version through the Gaijin Store and want it on Steam, use the official Steam Edition claim page and sign in with the same Gaijin account you originally purchased with — a Gaijin developer confirmed in Steam Discussions that this transfer is supported.
Verify an email via another free Gaijin title (community workaround)
If Steam won't let you complete the purchase because your Gaijin account has no confirmed email, install another free Gaijin title (War Thunder or Enlisted) on the same Steam account first and verify an email there, then retry — a community workaround reported in Steam Discussions, not an official fix.
