ACE COMBAT 8 error ST-3100001: sync Windows clock (fix)

ACE COMBAT ONLINE shows error code ST-3100001 and you can't continue, usually while a mission is loading after you pick your aircraft.

Also appears as: ST-3100001, ST3100001, st 3100001, ace combat 8 connection timed out, ace combat online error, error when loading mission ace combat 8

Bandai Namco's official Steam post says ST-3100001 appears when communication with the game server is lost, and its one listed fix is to synchronise the Windows clock and test again.

Players back this up. One reported their clock was about 136 seconds behind and that correcting it let them into matches; two others said it worked or confirmed it. Others report the error on matching hardware with no clock fix, so a sync is the first thing to try, not a guarantee. It is also reported during busy launch hours, so check the status page too.

Fix it, step by step

  1. Synchronise the Windows clock, then test the game again

Right-click the clock in the taskbar, open Adjust date/time, turn on "Set time automatically" and press "Sync now", then restart Steam and the game. This is the fix in Bandai Namco's official post.

  2. Check how far off your clock is with w32tm

One player checked their offset with w32tm /stripchart /computer:time.windows.com /samples:10 /dataonly, found about 136 seconds of drift, corrected it and was able to enter matches. Treat any large drift as the likely cause.

  3. Note

Some players hit ST-3100001 with the clock already correct, and one commenter in a Steam thread calls it an engine issue. That is unverified. Check the status page (/ace-combat-8/) for current problems and reply in the official Steam threads with your details.
