World of Slime "Server Under Maintenance" / can't connect (fix)

The game either shows a "Server Under Maintenance" message on launch, or boots you mid-session with a repeating "cannot connect to server" error that returns you to the home screen.

Three separate Steam Discussions reports during the World of Slime PC demo describe this same connection failure. One player was booted from an active session and got a repeating "cannot connect to server" error. A second, in a thread titled "Is it just me, or is anyone else having trouble connecting?", couldn't get in even after reinstalling multiple times — a reply confirmed the servers "were having 30 minutes maintenance" at the time. A third player posted a long list of local fixes that didn't work (verifying files, reinstalling, deleting partial files, restarting their PC, disabling Windows Defender) before finding that a VPN was the only thing that got them past a persistent "Server Under Maintenance" message. No official TEAM42 post documents a maintenance schedule, so there's no way to confirm whether that report reflects a real regional restriction or a one-off routing issue — but the consistent detail across all three reports is that the fault sits on the connection/server side, not in a broken local install.
