Valheim items lose upgrade levels on item stands after 1.0 (fix)

Weapons, armour or fish on an item stand or armour stand come back at a lower upgrade level, or without their variant, after the world is loaded in 1.0.

Iron Gate's Patch 1.0.15 post explains this as a side effect of the updated save format introduced in 1.0: the level and variant data of items on item stands and armour stands is lost in the conversion, and the issue was missed in testing. It was fixed in Patch 1.0.12, so a world first loaded after that fix converts correctly, but a world already converted before it stays affected. Iron Gate published a workaround built on the backup the game makes the first time a world loads in the new format.
What to try
- 01Don't take high-level items off a stand without a backup. The 1.0.12 hotfix notes warn not to remove high-level items (fish, weapons, armour) from item stands without using backups if you have been playing 1.0, and say the fix only applies to items you have not been close to since 1.0 released.Confirmed
- 02Option one, from Iron Gate's Patch 1.0.15 post: revert the world from the backup made when you first loaded the new save format. Everything you built or changed in the world since then is lost with this method.Confirmed
- 03Option two, from the same post: make a copy of that backup, enter the backed-up world, put the affected items on your character, then go back to your main world and replace the broken items.Confirmed
