Valheim items marked "cheated" without using cheats (fix)

Ordinary drops, crafted items or items from chests show as "cheated" even though nobody used dev commands.

Since 1.0, Iron Gate flags items spawned with dev commands as cheated, and a character that picks one up enters a temporary cheat state that blocks achievements (Iron Gate's 1.0 FAQ). Players in Steam threads from September 19 to 22, 2026 say normal items began turning cheated with no cheats used. Iron Gate's Patch 1.0.15 post (September 18) acknowledges items being incorrectly marked, says a fix is planned, that it must ship on every platform at once so as not to break crossplay, and that you can keep playing normally with those items. Patch 1.0.14 had already fixed characters being wrongly marked as temporary cheaters and stopped cheated stacks from absorbing regular items. The 1.0.16 notes (September 25) list no further fix for wrongly marked items.
What to try
- 01Keep playing. Iron Gate's Patch 1.0.15 post says you can continue to play normally with wrongly marked items and that they will be fixed in an upcoming patch released to all platforms together.Confirmed
- 02Update to the newest patch (1.0.16 as of September 25, 2026). The 1.0.14 and 1.0.15 notes changed how cheated items are handled: characters no longer wrongly become temporary cheaters, cheated stacks no longer merge with regular items, and items affected by dev commands stopped being marked for characters with the dev bypass on.Confirmed
- 03To earn achievements again, per Iron Gate's 1.0 FAQ, a temporarily cheated character becomes eligible again after throwing out all cheated items from its inventory; cheated items are visibly marked. The 1.0.12 hotfix post also describes a devcommand that opts a character back in to achievements after past devcommand or mod use, and leaves the decision to the player.Confirmed
