The Bornless "AuthenticateUserTicket error" — access ended (fix)
Launching shows "Steam API AuthenticateUserTicket error response: ('response': ('error'…)" or leaves you stuck at the main lobby screen instead of loading in, right after previously being able to play.
Also appears as: the bornless authenticateuserticket error, steam api authenticateuserticket error, the bornless stuck in main lobby, authenticateuserticket error response, is this a ban the bornless
This surfaced in Steam Discussions on October 30, 2025, the same day Cathedral Studios' own Steam post ("The Ritual Moves to the Playtest App") announced that the public demo build was being shut off in favor of a keyed Playtest build for Steam Scream Fest. Five separate players reported the identical error within that thread ("i get that to", "same here", "same", "yes"), and another player asked the moderators directly; the answer relayed in the thread was "the demo is over, you need to switch back to the playtest!" So this is what your Steam client shows when your installed build's access has been revoked because the event it belonged to ended — not a ban, and not something wrong with your account.
The Bornless isn't playable yet — there's no service to be down.
Is The Bornless down right now? Live reports →What to try
- 01Confirm whether the demo/playtest window you were using has ended — check the official playtest page or the game's Discord announcements before assuming your account was banned.Reported
- 02Request a fresh Steam key for the current build (Playtest vs. Demo) in the official Discord (discord.gg/thebornless); several players in the sourced thread resolved the identical error this way once told the demo had switched to a keyed Playtest.Reported
- 03If a test window is confirmed live and this still happens, verify your game files through Steam's Properties menu and restart Steam before reporting it as a new bug.Unconfirmed
