Rust server list empty or "No servers showing": fixes

The in-game server browser shows few servers, or none, or is missing the servers you normally play on.

Facepunch's "No servers showing" article says the server list is not populated from one central server. Steam seeds it, then your client asks each Rust server for basic info, and a server only appears once it answers. A server that is being DDoSed or is far from you, or packet loss on your own connection, can make it look slow or missing while someone else sees it fine. Facepunch's fixes are all on your side, but a single missing server can also simply be that server being down. If the whole browser is empty, work through the list below.
What to try
- 01In Steam, open Settings, then In-Game, and check that "Server browser pings / minute" is set to at least 5000. Facepunch says Rust uses Steam's master server to collect servers.Confirmed
- 02Make sure you launched "Rust", not "Rust Staging Branch". Facepunch says Staging usually has fewer servers because it is used for testing.Confirmed
- 03Right-click Rust in Steam, open Properties, then Betas, and make sure you have not opted into any beta. After opting out, verify your game files.Confirmed
- 04Turn your router or modem off and on again.Confirmed
- 05Update your antivirus and check your firewall. Facepunch suggests seeing whether temporarily disabling the firewall has any effect.Confirmed
- 06If you know a server's IP and port, join it directly: from the main menu (while not on a server) press F1 and type `connect IP:Port`. Facepunch names third-party sites Battlemetrics.com and Just-wiped.net as places to find a server's address.Confirmed
