Rust "EAC: Disconnected" error: how to fix it

Rust disconnects you from a server with an Easy Anti-Cheat "Disconnected" error.
Also appears as: EAC: Disconnected, Disconnected: EAC, rust disconnected eac, rust eac disconnected, rust eac connection failed, client.easyanticheat.net
Facepunch says this means your connection to Easy Anti-Cheat's back-end servers is not working, so the game server can't verify that EAC is enabled and disconnects you. The two things it asks you to check are on your side: that you launched Rust from Steam, and that your antivirus or firewall isn't blocking EAC's connection.
What to try
- 01Launch Rust from the Steam library, not from the game folder. Facepunch says EAC isn't loaded if the game isn't launched from Steam.Confirmed
