Gears of War: E-Day mags-ripper: Connecting to required services

The game sits on "Connecting to required services" with the error code "mags-ripper", and choosing Offline in the menu shows the same code.
Also appears as: mags-ripper, mags ripper, magsripper, connecting to required services, gears e-day error code mags-ripper, gears of war e-day connecting to required services, gears of war e-day offline mode error
Steam players report mags-ripper at "Connecting to required services". Several say they also get marcus-lancer, and that both started after they accepted the prompt to link their Steam account to Xbox or Microsoft. That points to the account service, not your PC.
The evidence is one Steam Discussions thread (17 comments, October 9). We found no developer response and no confirmed fix. Check the live status page first.
No problems reported in the last 15 minutes.

- 01Unconfirmed
No confirmed fix yet
Nobody in the Steam thread reported a fix, and one commenter said everything they had seen was that players will have to wait. This page will be updated if that changes. For the sign-in error that often comes with it, see the marcus-lancer page.

Going Offline and checking your own setup didn't help reporters
Reporters in the thread said choosing Offline from the menu showed mags-ripper too, and one said everything else on their end worked fine. A Linux user said Xbox support replied with an automatic dismissal.

Submit a support ticket with The Coalition (suggested in the thread)
One commenter advised submitting a support ticket on the official website and asking on the official Discord so moderators can see the reports. Nobody reported that it fixed their error.
