Escape from Tarkov error 206: launcher login fails (fix)

The BSG Launcher rejects your login with "Error 206" even though the same email and password work fine on the Battlestate Games website.

Error 206 is a launcher-side authentication failure, reported repeatedly on Battlestate's own official forum. A Battlestate moderator's reply on the forum (preserved via devtrackers.gg) points at the login field itself: "Make sure that your login (that would be your email or profile name) is entered correctly as well" — and separately warns that repeated failed attempts increase the wait time before you can try again, which can look like the launcher is simply broken when it's actually rate-limiting you. The website-works-but-launcher-doesn't pattern several players describe fits a stale cached credential or autofill mismatch in the launcher rather than the account itself being wrong.
What to try
