RuneScape 3 stuck on "loading application resources"

The RuneScape client never gets past "loading application resources", or is stuck on "Loading resources", and never reaches the login screen.

Jagex's support article for this message says you might hit it if you have a second screen connected by an HDMI cable. Its fix is to close the client, unplug the HDMI cable, open the client, then plug the cable back in. Jagex's separate Client issues article lists a stuck "Loading resources" screen too and suggests updating programs, drivers and your operating system, clearing the cache, and testing from a new Windows profile. What to try
- 01Close the client, unplug the HDMI cable from your second screen, open the client again, then plug the HDMI cable back in. Jagex gives this as the fix for this message.Confirmed
- 02Update your programs, graphics drivers and operating system. Jagex's Client issues article lists this first for a client stuck on "Loading resources".Confirmed
- 03Clear the game cache so the client downloads fresh copies of its files, and wait for the cache progress bar to reach 100% before playing. Jagex lists this for damaged or corrupted cache files.Confirmed
- 04On Windows, try creating a new Windows profile and loading the client there. Jagex says this checks whether a program on your main profile is the cause.Confirmed
