Path of Exile 2 "Deadlock Detected" crash: what's fixed, what isn't

The client freezes mid-session — often during a loading screen, a zone transition, or a Ritual encounter — and a "Deadlock Detected" popup appears. Sometimes the freeze takes the whole PC down with it, not just the game.

GGG has fixed one specific, confirmed trigger for this. Its official 0.5.0 Hotfix patch notes (posted May 29, 2026) state plainly: "Fixed a client deadlock that could occur from build planner files." That version followed the introduction of a new build-sharing system in patch 0.5.0, and the deadlock traced to loading those build files. That fix did not end the crash for everyone. A pathofexile.com bug-report thread running from July 1–22, 2026 — after the 0.5.0 hotfix had already shipped — describes the same "Deadlock Detected" popup recurring with no build planner involved: players report it "every other map" and "at almost every Ritual encounter," with one saying "almost a month now and still no fix." No GGG staff reply appears in that thread, and no second confirmed cause has been published. Reports came from a range of hardware, including high-end systems (Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RTX 5080), so this isn't purely a low-spec problem. If you're hitting this outside the build-planner scenario GGG already fixed, treat it as an open, unconfirmed engine issue rather than something a specific setting will reliably solve.
What to try
