Path of Exile 2 server status: is it down?

Path of Exile 2 is in Early Access

The head start is open, so the servers are live and the reports on this page are real players hitting real servers. Full release follows on December 11, 2026, which is usually the bigger test of the two — a head start is a fraction of the launch-day crowd. Queues and login failures are normal in this window and are not the same thing as an outage: a queue means the servers are up and full.

Is it broken for you? Tap what's failing

One tap. No account, no email. Reports are the only thing that tells the next player whether it's their connection or the servers — including when that player is you tomorrow.

Your report is anonymous. We store the category and the time. We do not store your IP address — it is hashed with a secret and today's date purely to stop one person filing fifty reports, and the hash cannot be reversed or matched to you tomorrow.

Players in game

32,318

Concurrent players on Steam right now. A real outage pulls this number down within minutes, so a normal count alongside a flat report count usually means the problem is on your end.

Maintenance, queues, and real outages

Three different things get reported as "Path of Exile 2 is down," and only one of them is an outage. The chart above is the fastest way to tell them apart, once there's data on it:

A real outage

Reports spike hard within an hour, then decay as the problem is fixed. Nobody announced it in advance.

Scheduled maintenance

Reports climb steadily and stay flat for the length of the window, because everyone hits the same wall at the same time and keeps hitting it.

A login queue

Matchmaking/login reports climb while server-connection reports stay low, and a Steam player count (if shown above) holds flat instead of dropping. The servers are up and full, not down — waiting is the only fix.

Announced maintenance would show up at the studio's own status channel before it shows up here.

If it's only broken for you

Most "is it down" moments aren't outages. Work down this list before assuming the servers are the problem — it's ordered by how often each one turns out to be the answer, not by how easy it is.

  1. 01

Check the report count above first

It costs nothing and it settles the question. A flat report count means other players are getting in fine, and everything below is worth your time. A spike means it isn't you, and none of it is.

  2. 02

    Verify the game files

In Steam: right-click Path of Exile 2 → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. A partial patch is the single most common cause of a game that launches and then fails to connect.

  3. 03

Restart the whole chain, in order

Game, then your launcher/Steam, then your router. People almost always do the first and skip the third — a stale router NAT table produces exactly the symptom people report as "servers down."

  4. 04

Rule out a VPN or restrictive network

A VPN fails matchmaking far more often than it fixes it, and so does a corporate or campus network that blocks the UDP ports a game server needs. If you're on a network you don't administer, that's the likely answer.

  5. 05

If it crashes rather than fails to connect, treat it as a crash

A game that starts and then dies, rather than never connecting, is usually a local fault — most often graphics drivers or overlay software, not the servers.

Path of Exile 2 server status: common questions

Is Path of Exile 2 down right now?

As of 00:35 UTC, 0 players have reported a problem in the last 15 minutes — counted as people, so repeat taps from one person don't inflate it. Path of Exile 2 is in Early Access until December 11, 2026, so queues and login failures are expected and are not the same thing as an outage. This page updates on every load.

Is Path of Exile 2 down for everyone, or just me?

Compare the two signals on this page. If reports are flat and the Steam player count looks normal for the time of day, plenty of people are getting in fine and the problem is local to you — work down the checklist below. If reports spike and the concurrent player count drops at the same time, it isn't you, and restarting your client or router won't fix a server-side problem.

Wait, isn't Path of Exile 2 already out? Why is there a "launch" on December 11, 2026?

Both things are true, which is exactly why this is confusing. Path of Exile 2 has been playable, with real servers and a real economy, since its Early Access launch on December 6, 2024 — it already has years of concurrent-player history on Steam. December 11, 2026 is a different milestone: the 1.0 full release, which adds the final two campaign acts, a new class, and drops the game to free-to-play across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and the Epic Games Store at the same moment. Think of it less like a game "launching" and more like a AAA MMO's biggest expansion to date — a huge, concentrated login event on top of a service that's already been running for nearly two years.

What exactly happens on December 11, 2026?

Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has confirmed 1.0 adds Acts 5 and 6, completing the full six-act campaign for the first time, and introduces the Duelist, a sword-and-shield melee class. The game simultaneously becomes free-to-play on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation and Xbox. GGG is also running a pre-launch registration campaign at pathofexile2.com/register through December 10, where signing up unlocks community-wide milestone rewards (cosmetic effects and a pet) that scale with how many people register — worth doing before the day itself if you want them.

GGG's official 1.0 registration page →

Will my Early Access characters and progress carry over to 1.0?

Not into the new economy, but nothing is deleted. GGG's own FAQ states plainly that "none of your characters will be wiped, they will just go to a league called Early Access (so they will never be in Standard)." Every character, currency stash and piece of gear you have right now moves into that permanent, separate Early Access league on December 11 — playable, but walled off from the fresh 1.0 Standard economy everyone starts on day one. Only account-wide purchases (stash tabs, cosmetics) follow you across.

Do Path of Exile league launches actually have a documented history of server problems, or is that overstated?

It's documented, not exaggerated. In April 2021, GGG gave paid streamers priority in the Ultimatum league's login queue while regular players faced waits of two-plus hours; lead developer Chris Wilson posted on Reddit the next day calling the launch "rough, to say the least" and the streamer decision "clearly a mistake." Path of Exile 2's own Early Access debut on December 6, 2024 needed last-minute database upgrades and a same-day crash fix that pushed the servers live roughly 90 minutes late, and players still hit "Unable to Connect to Login Server" and "Your Account Does Not Have Access" errors for days afterward. The July 2024 Settlers of Kalguur league launch shipped with enough client crashes and a broken PlayStation/Xbox virtual keyboard that GGG pushed five separate hotfixes in the days after. As recently as June 4, 2026, a routine hotfix triggered 70 minutes of server-side crashes and lag from a packaging bug in the passive skill tree data — GGG's own postmortem said "we have never experienced this type of failure before, and were totally unprepared for it."

GGG's own account of the June 2026 server-crash incident →

So what should I actually expect on December 11, 2026 itself?

Based on that history: login queues in the first hours are close to guaranteed given a simultaneous free-to-play launch across four platforms, some players hitting "an unexpected disconnection occurred" or instance-join failures as new zones and the Duelist's systems take load, and a real chance of at least one hotfix in the following days. What's different this time is scale and stakes — 1.0 is GGG's biggest single audience event yet, bigger than any prior league launch — while also being the one they have the most practice preparing for. They've publicly committed to not repeating the 2021 streamer-queue mistake, but a launch this size has produced surprises before, as recently as three months before this page was written.

What does "an unexpected disconnection occurred" mean, and is it likely to come back on December 11?

It's a server-side failure, not something wrong with your PC. The error was widely reported from PoE2's December 2024 Early Access launch onward, and GGG's own patch commentary has separately described periods where server-side crash rates ran roughly six times higher than normal during heavy launches. Given the pattern above, a recurrence during the 1.0 rush is a realistic expectation, not a guess — see the dedicated page for what's confirmed about it.

What's actually known about this error, and what to do about it →

Is there a login queue, and does being queued mean the game is down?

No — a queue means the servers are up and full, which is a different state from down. GGG queues players rather than refusing them when capacity is tight, and queues have been a normal part of every major Path of Exile launch since at least 2021. Waiting it out is the only fix; restarting the client just puts you back at the end of the line. Treat a long queue and an actual outage as separate things when you're deciding whether to report a problem here.

Does Grinding Gear Games publish an official status page?

There's no single dedicated uptime dashboard, but GGG does communicate through specific, named channels rather than staying silent. The "Path of Exile 2 Early Access Announcements" forum on pathofexile.com is described by GGG itself as carrying "News and Game Status updates," and during major releases GGG runs a launch-day thread on its @pathofexile account on X alongside a "Live Updates" thread on the forum specifically for real-time status during the event. The Steam news hub for app 2694490 is the other place patch and downtime notes land. None of these are a live status page in the traffic-light-dashboard sense — they're announcements, same as the other trackers covering this game, which is the gap a crowdsourced page like this one is for.

GGG's own Early Access Announcements / Game Status forum →

Is there an official Path of Exile 2 Discord?

Not confirmed as GGG-operated, and that's worth being direct about rather than assuming. Discord's own directory lists a server called "Path Of Exile 2" with roughly 80,000 members, but community discussion on GGG's own forums — including a thread asking this exact question — has repeatedly stated there is no official Path of Exile Discord run by GGG, only unofficial community servers where GGG staff occasionally post. Unlike a lot of modern live-service games, GGG's real official channels are its own forums, the @pathofexile account on X and the Steam news hub, not a first-party Discord — so a Discord link should not be treated as an official source until GGG says otherwise.

Who actually runs Path of Exile 2's servers, and does that matter here?

Grinding Gear Games, a New Zealand-based studio that has been majority-owned by Tencent since 2018 but still operates its own development team and infrastructure. That matters for this page in one practical way: GGG's incident history (above) is specifically GGG's own track record, not a shared platform's — problems here won't necessarily line up with outages on unrelated Tencent-linked games.

This game already has other "is it down" trackers. What does this page do differently?

Path of Exile 2 already shows up on several generic uptime-checker sites that repeat the same boilerplate "server status" copy for hundreds of unrelated games. This page doesn't try to claim it's the only tracker — it tries to be the more useful one: reports here come from distinct players rather than one person mashing a button, the Steam concurrent-player count runs alongside those reports as an independent check, and specific error codes get their own sourced pages (like the disconnection error above) instead of a generic "try restarting your router" list.

How does this tracker know Path of Exile 2 is down?

It doesn't measure GGG's servers directly — nobody outside GGG can. It counts distinct players reporting a problem, the way any crowdsourced outage tracker works, and shows Steam's concurrent player count alongside it as a second, independent signal that tends to drop sharply during a real outage. Reports are counted once per person, so repeatedly pressing the button doesn't move the number.

Incident history

Auto-logged from player reports over the last 30 days. An incident is a run of hours with at least six different players reporting in each, the same signal the verdict above responds to — so one frustrated player pressing a button repeatedly can never put an incident on this list.
