Enshrouded error 0x11C7: won't launch (Smart App Control)
Enshrouded won't start and shows error 0x11C7. One player says that launching the .exe directly shows Windows Smart App Control blocking it with "Unable to verify publisher of app".
Also appears as: 0x11c7, enshrouded 0x11c7, enshrouded error 0x11c7, enshrouded won't launch, enshrouded smart app control, enshrouded unable to verify publisher of app, enshrouded game won't launch anymore
Players tie error 0x11C7 to Windows Smart App Control blocking Enshrouded from starting, which puts it on your PC. In two Steam threads it hit them suddenly after the game had been working, and two players say it cleared after a Windows update.
Keen Games hasn't published a fix that we could find. A Reddit commenter wrote that the devs are looking into it; that is not a Keen statement. All reports are from late January 2026 and we found no newer ones.
Fix it, step by step
Install the latest Windows update, then restart
One Steam poster found a pending Windows update after rebooting, installed it and says Enshrouded then worked. The original poster of the Reddit thread edited it to say "Last windows update fixed it for me". Another Steam poster already had that update and says it changed nothing, so this is not a sure fix.
Run Windows Update's "Reinstall now" repair, then restart
One Steam poster says this worked after reinstalling Steam and the game, verifying files and adding a Defender exception had not: Start > Settings > Windows Update > Update History > Recovery, then under "Fix problems using Windows Update" click "Reinstall now" and restart. A second poster in the same thread says it did not work for them.
Add the Enshrouded folder as a Windows Security exclusion (one report)
One Steam poster says adding the game's folder under Windows Security > Virus and threat protection > Exclusions fixed it. Another poster in the same threads says adding a Defender exception did not help them.
Last resort: turn off Smart App Control
Players in both Steam threads and on Reddit say turning off Smart App Control lets the game start, and one calls it a workaround until a proper fix arrives. Be aware it lowers Windows' protection, and a player in the thread says it can only be turned back on by reinstalling Windows. Try the steps above first.
