Halloween: The Game Session Heartbeat Failure (fix)
A match or story session ends with a "Session Heartbeat Failure" message. Restarting then leaves you stuck on "backend authentication", in a long login queue, or at "failed to select service region".

A heartbeat failure means the game stopped hearing back from IllFonic's servers, so the session was dropped. It has hit many players at the same moment, which points at the servers, not your connection.
In a 57-reply Steam Discussions thread from launch day, September 4, players got it together and called it a server crash. Afterwards they were stuck on backend authentication, then failed to select service region, or sent to a 10,000-plus login queue. IllFonic didn't reply there.
No problems reported in the last 15 minutes.

Look at the Halloween: The Game status page and the official @HalloweenTVG account on X. If reports spike at the same time, the servers are down and nothing on your side will fix it.

Restart the game and queue again once servers are back
Players in the September 4 thread got back in by restarting the game after the servers recovered, though some had to wait in the login queue again.

No confirmed local fix yet
Nobody has reported a setting or network change that stops this message. One player said story progress made offline after the crash wasn't saved, so avoid playing on while the servers are down. This page will be updated when IllFonic says more.
