Delta Force error 126: failed to load tdatamaster.dll (fix)

The game refuses to launch and shows a Windows error 126 dialog naming a missing or corrupt DLL — most often tdatamaster.dll, sometimes reported as dsound.dll or intlcore.dll instead.

Windows error 126 means the game tried to load a DLL it couldn't find or open — this is a local installation problem, not a server issue. For Delta Force it's almost always tdatamaster.dll, which the game's Unreal Engine prerequisite installer is supposed to place during setup; if that installer never ran, was interrupted, or the file was later quarantined by antivirus software, the game can't start. Multiple independent Steam Discussions threads describe this exact failure and the same prerequisite installer as the fix.
Fix it, step by step
Run UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe from the Redist folder
Open your Delta Force install folder (Steam Library > right-click Delta Force > Properties > Installed Files > Browse) and navigate to Game\Engine\Extras\Redist\en-us. Run UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe, which reinstalls tdatamaster.dll and the other Unreal Engine runtime files.
Verify integrity of game files in Steam
If the prerequisite installer doesn't fix it, run Steam's "Verify integrity of game files" (Properties > Installed Files) to replace any other corrupted or missing files.
Restore or whitelist tdatamaster.dll if antivirus removed it
Check whether your antivirus quarantined tdatamaster.dll after the prerequisite installer placed it, and restore/whitelist it if so — several reports describe the file being removed shortly after install.
Reinstall the game as a last resort
As a last resort, reinstall the game, which restores the complete file set including the DLL.
