DayZ shows "CONNECTING FAILED (0x00010001) Could not connect to the server because it is unreachable." when you try to join a server.

0x00010001 is SERVER_UNREACHABLE, "Could not reach the server", in Bohemia's official DayZ error-code wiki. It is a connection error shown in the server browser, so the cause can be that one server, your PC, or BattlEye. If it happens on every server for you, it is more likely on your side.

In Steam Discussions threads, players reported it on official servers while community servers worked, and the fixes that came up involve BattlEye and how DayZ is launched. None of these is confirmed by Bohemia, and several players said they tried them with no change. One reporter said it cleared by itself on January 18, 2024. Fix it, step by step

  1. Start DayZ by running DayZ_BE as administrator

    Open your DayZ install folder (for example C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DayZ), right-click DayZ_BE and choose Run as administrator, then pick your server in the game. In a January 2024 Steam thread, one player said this let them join official servers, another said it worked for them too, and a third said it didn't help. One player also found it only worked for official servers: modded servers need the normal "Play DayZ" launch, which is where mods load.

  2. Allow BattlEye in your security software and reset its service folder

    A reply in the same thread pasted BattlEye's own advice. Make sure security software isn't blocking BEService.exe or BEService_x64.exe or the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye. If that doesn't help, delete the BattlEye folder in Common Files and start DayZ again. The original poster tried it and said it made no difference. A separate August 2022 thread adds uninstalling BattlEye with Uninstall_BattlEye.bat in the BattlEye folder, restarting the modem and PC, and verifying game files; one reply said it worked.

  3. Check the BattlEye status window for a blocked file (one report)

    One player's BattlEye status window showed "Blocked loading of file" for a DLL from a security program called AlphaSecure ZeroKeeper, and uninstalling it cleared 0x00010001. They also said others fixed the error after removing the OneDrive app. That is one report, not verified.

  4. Retry the join a few times, then try another server (two reports)

    One player said clicking Join around 50 times eventually got them in. Another, in a 2021 thread, said to wait five minutes and try again, and if it still fails to wait for a server restart. Neither is a fix.

  5. Note

    We found no Bohemia statement on what causes this. Players in the threads we read said reinstalling the game and turning off firewalls and antivirus didn't help them. Report it with your logs at report.bistudio.com; Bohemia's Steam news points players there for bug reports. This page will be updated.
