The match list looks empty, a match drops everyone, or you can't find a server with other players in it and assume the game's servers are down.

In Early Access, Obscurity: Unknown Threat has no central game servers to go down. The developers said so on Steam in September 2026: "It's currently only peer-to-peer - host a match & other players will see it in the list." Bots fill teams until players join.

So an empty list usually means nobody is hosting a public match right now, and a match that ends for everyone usually means its host left. The dedicated-server trouble the studio confirmed was during a July 2024 playtest, not the Early Access build. Check the live status page for current reports.

What to try

    Host a public match yourself so others can join it

    From the main menu, host a public match. Other players see it in the match list, and bots fill the teams until they join, per the developers' Steam reply. Update 0.56.28 (September 27, 2026) removed the in-game lobby phase when hosting, so a public match starts straight away.

    Invite friends or play solo challenges against bots

    The developers' other two suggestions: invite your friends to your own match, or play the single-player challenges against bots while the public list is quiet.

    The confirmed dedicated-server issues date from a 2024 playtest

    In July 2024 the developers wrote that "we had a lot of issues with the dedicated servers and performance" during their first Unreal Engine 5 playtest. That was before Early Access, which is peer-to-peer. If many players report problems at once, check the Steam news hub and the official Discord.
